History
In 1974, three higher education administrators joined together to create Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California. These individuals recognized a need for a non-traditional institution of education that would service mid-career professionals in a society that was changing due to demographical trends in the U.S. To further this purpose, Fielding created its own model of learning that would meet the needs of its students. The University continues to use this model today to offer flexible, adult-centered, self-directed, task-oriented, and competence-based programs.
