Graceland University

Overview

Graceland University seeks to create learning communities where students can develop their potential for meaningful and productive lives.  Through two campus and several off-campus sites, Graceland offers its students many learning options, which include traditional classes as well as online classes.  The University’s offerings include a School of Nursing, Seminary, and a Global Campus, as well as many undergraduate and graduate degree opportunities.  Graceland is committed to bringing out the full potential of each of its students by providing a unique educational experience to its students.

History

Graceland University began as Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa in 1895 with a land grant from church members of the RDLS Church, which is now Community of Christ church.  Classes began with 18 students, four faculty members, and a dean.  Graceland’s name came from the land surveyor because of the beauty of the land on which the college was built.  Graceland College became the first accredited junior college in Iowa in 1917 and became a four-year college in 1960.  On June 1, 2000, Graceland College was renamed Graceland University.

Academics

Graceland has many degree options for students in the fields of nursing, allied health, fitness leadership, and education as well as many Bachelor of Arts opportunities.  Lamoni, the main campus, offers 43 undergraduate majors and 60 degree options, while the Independence, Missouri, location offers undergraduate programs in Education, Nursing, and Business Administration, and graduate programs in Education and Religion.  Graceland University’s Global Campus offers online nursing programs and online education programs to students who are interested in distance learning.

Online Learning

Graceland recognizes the growing need for distance learning and has several options for students who have a need for an education outside the traditional classroom.  Undergraduate degrees in Nursing and Healthcare Administration are offered through Graceland University’s Global Campus, and the institution offers online graduate programs in both Nursing and Education.  Instructors of online courses are available to students through online classroom discussions as well as e-mail and phone.  Additional resources include the Graceland eCollege help desk, which is a helpful resource to online students.
