Overview

Iowa Central College Online offers a quality education for diverse individuals with wide-ranging educational needs.  Through innovation and excellence, Iowa Central College Online is focused on its students and an appreciation of diversity.  Part of the institution’s philosophy is to provide an educational experience for those who desire pre-professional courses, improvement of educational or technical skills, or developmental programs for self-enrichment through either an on-campus or online setting with accessible, flexible community-centered programs and activities.

History

Iowa Central Community College was formed in 1966 with the merge of three area junior colleges (Fort Dodge, est. 1921; Webster City, est. 1926; and Eagle Grove, est. 1928).  It originally only served a nine-county area in the northwestern section of Iowa, but the 25,000+ student body is now global with Iowa Central College Online.

Academics

Iowa Central College Online offers the following programs:

  • Computer Networking Technology (CNT) - This program teaches students to administer a local area network, install and troubleshoot communication hardware/software, and integrate technologies that the business world demands. Additionally, students will be prepared to obtain networking certifications such as Novell, Microsoft, A+, N+, and Cisco. Major areas of study include Networks - Microsoft Windows; Novell; Internet Design; Configuration and Maintenance of Networks; Configuration and Implementation of Protocols; Interconnecting Networks; and Cisco Router Certification.
  • Criminal Justice (CJ) - Iowa Central’s online Criminal Justice program specifically focuses on homeland security and offers training in Terrorism Awareness, Incident Command, Bombing Awareness, and Weapons of Mass Destruction. Faculty members in this program average 25 years of experience and include a Chief of Police, a Director of a Homeland Security Training Center, a Deputy Sheriff, a Sergeant Detective, an Iowa Law Enforcement Academy instructor in self defense and firearms training, a correctional facilitator, an investigator, a US Marshall, a Narcotics Task Force officer, and a Department of Natural Resources employee.
  • Business - The Associate of Science in Business degree will prepare students for entry-level positions in the field of business as well as satisfy most Business Administration requirements at a four-year university. This program offers courses in accounting, entrepreneurship, business law, economics, management, marketing, and communication.
  • Associates in Arts Degree - Students pursuing this degree experience broad exposure to a wide variety of areas, which produces a well-rounded learning experience. Students will complete a minimum of 60 hours of coursework and will be well prepared to transfer to a four-year institution.
  • Human Services - Iowa Central’s online Human Services program includes courses in Ethics, Victim Advocacy, Psychology, Human Disabilities and Services, Group Counseling Techniques, Social Problems, Working with Youth, and Counseling Theories. Completion of this program will propel the graduate toward work in fields such as social work, public administration, and corrections.
  • Health Care Administration - This program teaches the skills needed to plan, supervise, and direct the delivery of healthcare by requiring students to cover material such as Aging Population, Healthcare, Economics, Management, and Accounting.
  • Medical Transcription and Coding - Students will receive training in medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy, laboratory procedures, grammar, keyboarding, transcribing, coding, and insurance.
